Amnesty law passed by right-wing MUD generates 'rejection and disgust' in Venezuela

This MUD proposal Maduro calls “criminal amnesia

7 April 2016 - Venezuela’s President Nicolas Maduro said the right-wing opposition discusses every decision with the U.S. Chargé d'Affaires in Caracas.
Venezuela President said Wednesday (April 6) that the amnesty law passed by right-wing lawmakers will provide impunity for murderers, and that not even dictators like Francisco Franco in Spain or Augusto Pinochet in Chile issued such sweeping measures.

Controversial 'Amnesty' Law Approved by newly Venezuelan Congress

Maduro stressed that this proposal, which he called “criminal amnesia,” has generated “rejection and disgust" in the country. He also alleged the opposition MUD coalition that controls the National Assembly discusses every decision it takes with the U.S. Chargé d'Affaires in Caracas.

The Venezuelan right-wing opposition won a majority in Dec. 6, 2015 congressional elections. Since then, Maduro charged, right-wing lawmakers have only shown an interest in passing “criminal laws” intended to further a coup against his government.

The socialist leader Maduro also said these laws are aimed at eliminating the rights of people and privatizing everything in order to destroy the achievements of the Bolivarian Revolution started by the late Hugo Chavez.

During the TV program, "Hitting with the Sledge Hammer," Maduro lamented attempts by the right wing to eliminate the housing social mission, which has now constructed nearly one million free houses for Venezuelans. He said that, despite the drop in oil prices, his government will deliver 1.5 million houses by the end of the year.

President Maduro also decreed that all Fridays for the next two months will be holidays, in a bid to save energy.
